Spent Superbowl Sunday down avoiding professional sports wandering around downtown Monterey. It's barely a forty minute drive away, but it was still nice to get out of town and feel like tourists on a mini-vacation. The man and I started at my absolute favorite place in Monterey, The Crown & Anchor, fueling up on bangers 'n mash (for him) and curry potato wedges (for me). We walked around for a bit, but the downtown area wasn't as fun as it used to be. Eric doesn't have much of a sweet tooth, but he was looking forward to the Mars bars I had promised him. Unfortunately, the British Import Shoppe (not it's real name, which I can't remember) that I loved getting fun random candy and teas from had closed down...but since we were near Fisherman's Wharf, there were plenty of other Americana candy stores. Down by the shore, I was surprised that we couldn't walk out very far on the rocks, unless we wanted to squash and squelch all over the tiny anemones that covered almost everything like a carpet of moss. We got as close to the tide pools as we could.
