Current Top 5 Go-To Makeup Basics

If you enjoy makeup at all I'm sure you too go in waves: sometimes you love to wear a full face everyday, some weeks...not so much. For the past few months I've been leaning toward a more natural and easy everyday look and have been reaching for the same five products pretty consistently. After cleansing I like a nice creamy tinted moisturizer with SPF to even out my blotchy morning skin and protect against winter dryness. I picked up a sample tube of It Cosmetics your Skin But Better CC+ Cream in light when my complexion got too light for my trusty SuperGoop! stuff. I'm loving it's rich, luxurious texture and easy application. After that I always fill in my brows with NYX Tame & Frame Brow Pomade in Blonde and define the eyes with at least a few coats of mascara. I scored a free sample of It Superhero Volumizing Stretch mascara and have to say I'm liking it a lot, especially after being so disappointed by my last higher end mascara (the Too Faced cult fave I do not understand).

To quickly add a little color and definition to my face, I keep going back to Ulta's Lip & Cheek Color Stick in Golden, a warm-toned, slightly shimmery cream I blend into the hollows of my cheeks as a blush/bronzer and sometimes rub onto my eyelids. (Btw, I think the Ulta version is a fabulous dupe for the Smashbox L.A. Lights Blendable Color Sticks). I finish by tapping a highlighter along my cheekbones and on the tip of my nose; lately I climbed on the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector bandwagon when I tried a sample size in Opal. It's more natural than the pressed version and seems to works well for day. All in all this five product routine takes me less than five minutes in the morning and makes me feel put together and ready for anything!

On the mani/pedi front, I'm stoked to say that I already own polishes that match Pantone's two colors of the year, rose quartz and serenity. It is just me or is Pantone baby crazy this year? No matter, I still love me a good periwinkle blue and rose pink pairing. Instead of going out and buying new stuff, I looked in my polish collection and found matching shades: last year's soft blue and the cool-toned pink I haven't taken off in months anyway. I'm wearing Ulta polish in Bam-blu-zled and L.A. Colors in Timeless (similar new shade: Wet 'n Wild gel polish in Stay Classy).
